Sal is Running for Children's

In March of 2012, my then 9 year old son Drew was hit by a truck in our neighborhood. He was airlifted to Children’s Hospital here in Birmingham where he spent the next week in a coma. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, lost the function of one kidney, had a lacerated liver and spleen and endured a variety of other injuries as well. After coming out of the coma, he spent the next month in Children’s Hospital where the amazing staff had to reteach him how to talk, walk, and even swallow liquids. He then spent three days a week for the next year at Children’s Outpatient Clinic receiving physical, occupational and speech therapy. Because of the efforts of the doctors, nurses, therapists, teachers, and other staff at Children’s Hospital, Drew has made a remarkable recovery and this year, for this first time, has moved out of his special “academic enhancement” classes at school.
To mark the five year anniversary of, not the accident, but of the moment we knew Drew was going to be ok, I am going to attempt to make the Mercedes Marathon here in Birmingham my first marathon February 12, 2017. This is where I would appreciate your consideration and assistance in helping me honor my son’s recovery and the wonderful people at Children’s Hospital who made it possible. I am going to run the race in an effort to raise money for Children’s Hospital and I am hoping I can count on you to support my cause. Any and all amounts are accepted and will be GREATLY appreciated. And remember, many companies will match donations to a charitable cause so be sure to take advantage of that as well.
Can’t donate? I certainly understand but at least send good thoughts my way…I’m pretty sure I am going to need as many of those as possible!
Thanks in advance for supporting me but more importantly, thanks for supporting Children’s Hospital and all of the great work they do!
