Superman Dewey's Team
Halloween 2014 we awoke with such excitement because AK was in labor and we knew this was the day we'd been waiting for. We welcomed our first child, Dewey, into the world shortly after 1pm that day. It was one of the greatest days of our lives, but we had no clue what we were in for. The next day our pediatrician heard a murmur, but we weren't concerned as Dewey's oxygen saturation levels were at 100%. We were not prepared for our first of many cardiology appointments three days later. At that first appointment we found out that Dewey had Tetrology of Fallot. It is a rare combination of four congenital heart defects that require surgery at a yound age. Needless to say we were devistated. We spent several days after that appointment at Children's Hospital to monitor Dewey and his weight. In such a horrible situation we truly could not have been in a better place. The doctors, nurses and staff were the difference in us drowning in our own emotions and us preparing for the journey that was ahead of us. They helped us understand what was in store for Dewey and helped us set priorities for his care.
On New Year's Eve at two months old Dewey had a succesful surgery at Children's with all defects repaired. We could not be more thankful for the wonderful men and women of Children's hospital. We were lucky that generous people like you helped to fund research that enabled our surgeons and cardiologists to fix our son's heart. Please join us in contributing to this important work that saves our children's lives.
